WASHINGTON, D.C. – July 23, 2012 – Ladies DC, the founding chapter of Ladies America, will be hosting speaker and career strategist, Stephanie Goetsch, as she highlights “Five Steps to Negotiating the Salary You Deserve” during the professional group’s monthly happy hour event set for Wednesday, July 25th at the Washington Hilton (1919 Connecticut Ave NW) beginning at 6:00 pm. “As we have seen in recent months – especially here in Washington, D.C. when the Pay Equity Act was before Congress and all over the news – women historically undervalue their worth in the job place,” said Stephanie Goetsch, career strategist and founder of Spark Career Strategy. “We are finding that while women only make seventy-seven cents to every dollar men make that it isn’t always because of company policy, but much of the onus is on women themselves. By simplifying the frightening world of ‘negotiation’ for women down into five easy to follow steps, I know we can help instill in women the confidence they need to ask for and believe they deserve equal pay.”

Stephanie Goetsch, who recently launched “Spark Career Strategy,” has over 10 years of human resources experience and has spent that last several years as an entrepreneur, when she first launched the online women’s resource magazine, HerExchange. That endeavor is what ultimately lead her to creating Spark, which boasts various programs to bring women from the “job they hate” to the “career they love.”
“We are thrilled to have Stephanie joining us this week during our monthly happy hour,” said Jean Schindler, new Director of the Ladies DC chapter. “Pay equity has certainly been a hot topic this year, and as we look into 2013 and our goals and initiatives for the coming year, we found this to be one of the priorities. Practice makes perfect in virtually every sense, so the more we encourage women to negotiate wisely, the greater success we will likely see in their overall careers. And frankly, there is no better setting than a casual, non-threatening environment like our monthly happy hour, for women to gather and discuss an otherwise overwhelming subject.”
Ladies DC is the founding chapter of Ladies America, a national network of professional women connecting to advance one another personally and professionally, following the motto “Women Helping Women”.
Ladies America carefully selects two initiatives each year. This year, 2012, the group has focused on women in technology & global economics / finance. Ladies America is considering “salary negotiation” as one of the two initiatives to highlight in 2013.
